The District 155 communications department prides itself on telling our district’s story by showcasing the many opportunities available to our students and sharing our students and staff members' achievements.
The communications team provides the following support for our district and schools:
Community High School District 155 uses ParentSquare for school communication and emergency alerts via email, text, and app notifications. Notifications will be sent to your contact information in Skyward.
ParentSquare automatically generates an account for each parent, using their preferred email address and phone number from Skyward. We encourage parents to access their accounts so they can download the mobile app and update their preferences on when and how they are notified.
Emergency Alerts
During emergencies, we work closely with local law enforcement and emergency responders to gather and confirm accurate information to communicate as soon as possible. We understand you are looking for specific details in our communications; by law, we can not release student information or disciplinary action.
Student Communication
Students use a similar system called StudentSquare. Staff use StudentSquare to communicate with students about school, sports, and activities. Students can use the direct message feature to communicate with teachers, coaches, and activity sponsors.
If a school cancellation is necessary because of weather or should an emergency present itself during the school day, a text message, automated voice message, email, and app notification will be delivered to parents.
In most situations, including “snow days,” the system only notifies each family’s primary number as listed in Skyward Family Access. Generally, these are calls that occur outside of the regular school day. An emergency weather closing call usually goes out around 5:00 a.m. Please be sure that you have included the correct phone numbers in Skyward.
In the case of snow days, we will supplement the automated call, text, and email by posting a message to the district and school homepages.
If you would like your student to receive urgent safety alerts, school alerts, and bus delay information via text message, please update your student’s cell phone number in Skyward Family Access.
StudentSquare will take 24 hours to sync after the phone number is updated and saved, before your student will begin to receive alerts. If you have further questions, please email distmail@d155.org.
ParentSquare syncs contact information directly from Skyward Family Access, the school student information system (SIS), which is managed by the school district. If you or your student needs to update your contact information, please email distmail@d155.org. Please allow 48 hours for the update to be completed.
Please go to ParentSquare and on the login page, click "Forgot Password." Put in your email or phone number, and you will be sent a link to reset your password.
Please check your spam folder to see if any ParentSquare messages ended up there, and mark them as "Not Spam."
If your registration link expires, you will need a new one. Please email distmail@d155.org and ask for a new link to be sent to you.
To reduce the number of school notifications and emails you receive throughout the day from school, parents & guardians will receive all messages at one time, around 6:00 p.m. Emergency notifications will always be sent instantly.
You can customize your notification settings by going to your homepage, clicking on your name in the top right corner, and selecting "My Account" from the drop-down menu. On your account page, you can find your notification settings in the top right corner and click "Change This" to customize your notifications. Click here to learn how to update your notification preferences.
You can customize your language settings by going to "My Account" and clicking "Change This" under language settings. From here, you can choose any language you prefer from the drop-down menu, and you will start to receive content in that language. Learn how to update your language preferences.
If you would like to opt out or opt back in, please email distmail@d155.org.
District 155 and its schools may release student directory information, student works, and/or images to a variety of external audiences. These include the public, media, higher education, military, and approved vendors.
For the purposes of this section, student directory information includes a student’s name, address, and telephone number, gender, grade level, birth date and place, parent's name and address, academic awards, degrees and honors, information in relation to school-sponsored activities, organizations and athletics, the student's major field of study, and period of attendance in the school (District 155 Board Policy 7:340). Student directory information also shall include photographs, videos, or digital images used for information or news-related purposes of a student participating in school or school-sponsored activities, organizations, or athletics that have appeared in school publications such as yearbooks, newspapers, or sporting or fine arts programs, except that no photograph highlighting individual faces shall be used for commercial purposes including solicitation, advertising, promotion, or fundraising without the prior specific written consent of the parent or student, as applicable. No information protected by the Illinois School Student Records Act shall be released to any audience.
District 155 and its schools may release student information, student works, and images publicly through a variety of media. These include but are not limited to yearbooks, website stories and listings, playbills/programs, sports rosters, art shows, social media sites, public presentations and videos, graduation programs, honors night programs, and sports programs.
District 155 and its schools may release student information, student works, and images to the media for numerous reasons. These include, but are not limited to news releases and other communications with media representatives. Additionally, District 155 may grant access to school facilities during the regular school day when interruptions to the learning environment can be avoided. During these rare occasions, a student may be interviewed or photographed in a school setting for use by a media outlet in print and/or online. Please be aware that public and some semi-public events (including but not limited to sports contests, graduation, and performances) are not governed by this procedure, and that a student and his/her parent/guardian agree to be photographed and/or interviewed by the media by participating in such activities.
District 155 may release student directory information to institutions of higher education, including four-year and two-year colleges and universities, and trade/technical schools.
Under Illinois School Code, District 155 must provide access to the "high school campus[es] and student directory information to the official recruiting representatives of the armed forces of Illinois and the United States for the purpose of informing students of the educational and career opportunities available in the military." (105 ILCS 5/10-20.5a(a)). This information "may be used only to provide information to the students concerning educational and career opportunities available in the military and may not be released to a person who is not involved in recruiting students for the armed forces of Illinois or the United States." (105 ILCS 5/10-20.5a(d)). If a student or his/her parent/guardian submit a signed, written request to the high school before the end of the student's sophomore year (or if the student is a transfer student, by the end of his/her first year at a District 155 school or by the end of the transfer student's sophomore year, whichever is later), the district will not provide access to the student's directory information. The request must indicate that the student or his/her parent/guardian does not want the student's directory information to be provided to official recruiting representatives, and must be addressed to student's guidance counselor.
District 155 partners with several entities that provide services to its students. These include, but are not limited t,o providers of yearbooks, student portraits, class rings, graduation supplies (caps, gowns, announcements), and school booster clubs.
To opt out of any or all of these uses (except Military Use, see below), please submit your name, the name(s) of your student(s), the school, and specifically from which uses you would like to exclude your student's directory information, works, and images to Shannon Podzimek, director of communications, spodzimek@d155.org. Please be aware that opting out of any specific use excludes your student from any use within that category (i.e. if you opt out of Public Use, you are doing so for any such use, including the yearbook, programs, etc.). Opting out any use (except Military Use) will restrict the release of student directory information, student works, and images for only the current school year.
For Military Use, a student or his/her parent/guardian must opt out through a signed, written request that must indicate that the student or his/her parent/guardian does not want the student's directory information to be provided to official recruiting representatives of the armed forces of Illinois and the United States. This must be addressed to the student's guidance counselor and received by the district no later than the end of the student's sophomore year or, if the student is a transfer student, no later than his/her first year in District or the end of the transfer student's sophomore year, whichever is later.
If you have additional questions, contact Shannon Podzimek, director of communications at 815-455-8500 or email: spodzimek@d155.org.

Parents should be aware that the district has clear expectations for the use of these technologies by employees. Teachers or other staff members should never "friend" your child on Facebook, Twitter, or any other site. We ask that you understand that our teachers do this to maintain communication transparency. However, you and your student are encouraged to "follow" or "like" the professional teacher and activity accounts.
Employees also may maintain personal accounts used for professional development or other personal communications efforts. Regardless of the purpose of the account, the district does not endorse any information shared on a site like Twitter or Facebook. Individuals may post information related to their class or activities, but opinions, information, and links posted to these accounts are not endorsed or approved by District 155. Employees' posts to social media accounts reflect the opinions of the poster, and do not represent the opinions or endorsements of District 155 and its schools or programs.
